The Tristel Trio Wipes System and the Stella Decontamination System are two widely used methods for the decontamination of Transoesophageal Echocardiography probes (TOEs or TEEs). The Trio Wipes System is a very quick method that requires no water, drainage or power; Stella is also very quick and is a liquid immersion technique. Operation of Stella does require water but, as with the Trio Wipes System, does not require power or maintenance support.
The Tristel Trio Wipes System is acknowledged in the guidance document “Guidelines for Transoesophageal Echocardiography Probe Cleaning and Disinfection from the British Society of Echocardiography”(Kanagala P., Bradley C., Hoffman P. and Steeds R.P.), October 2011, as one of two appropriate decontamination methods for TOE probes.
